How to use the plantar pressure testing system?

2026-08-26

The plantar pressure testing system is a device that adopts the principle of high‑sensitivity pressure sensors to collect and analyze the human plantar pressure distribution, obtain dynamic gait data and generate visualized biomechanical reports.

The data of the measurement report includes peak pressure, center‑of‑pressure trajectory, plantar contact area, gait cycle evaluation, left‑right balance evaluation, forefoot force‑bearing evaluation, heel force‑bearing evaluation, stance‑phase and swing‑phase evaluation, etc.

The usage methods of the plantar pressure testing system are as follows:

1. Pre‑test preparation.

Before conducting tests every day, the operator shall perform zero‑setting first, check whether the sensor readings are reset and whether the analysis software runs normally, determine how many steps need to be collected, and verify whether the signals are stable.

It is essential to ensure that the system is connected normally with sensitive and accurate readings, and the drift is within the allowable range.

If any problem is found, restart or debugging shall be carried out in a timely manner.

In addition, the subject shall stand bare‑footed before the test and roll up trouser legs above the ankles or up to the knees, so as not to block camera capture and affect image synchronization.

2. Notes during the test process.

When performing the test, stand on the force‑plate area and make sure not to step beyond the edge, so that pressure data can be fully recorded.

Carefully watch the on‑screen instructions and start walking according to the prompts on the screen.

During data collection, do not take deliberate strides or walk with erratic speed. Keep your gait natural and smooth and look straight ahead.

If conditions permit, it is better to collect data 3‑5 times, so that waveform comparison can be performed to detect possible gait abnormalities in a timely manner.

In fact, the whole collection process takes a short time, and the input of gait data can be completed in approximately 5‑10 seconds.

3. Proper data analysis.

After collection is completed, an analysis report can be generated in formats such as Word or PDF.

Meanwhile, the software will automatically archive files to the designated path in the system. These files include pressure cloud maps, footprint images at different moments, raw data in CSV and other formats.

After the analysis is finished, the subject can properly save their analysis files by email or other means.

In addition, for health and data‑security purposes, the subject has the right to request the deletion of their own test data stored on the system after saving their data, to prevent the leakage of personal health information.

Institutions shall obtain informed consent from users before using users’ analysis data, encrypt sensitive information such as medical records, and respect and protect users’ personal health privacy.
