What data does the plantar pressure distribution system measure and what functions does it have?

2026-05-22

The plantar pressure distribution system is a device that uses array high-sensitivity pressure sensors to sense plantar pressure distribution when people walk in different states and stand still.

The plantar pressure distribution system is also known as gait analysis equipment, plantar pressure analyzer, plantar pressure plate and so on.

The data measured by the plantar pressure distribution system are usually as follows:

1. Pressure value
The unit of pressure value is KPa.

It measures the pressure value of each plantar area under different walking states and displays them simultaneously in the form of thermal images. We can observe overstressed parts of the sole, and distinguish high-pressure areas and low-pressure areas.

2. Pressure time curve
It generally refers to dynamically measured data, showing the dynamic changes of pressure in each plantar area over time when people walk or run.

This data is mainly used to analyze force changes during gait cycles under various standing postures.

3. Center of pressure
The center of pressure means the average stress position of the sole, which changes dynamically along with gait movement.

The software draws COP trajectory diagrams in real time.

This data is commonly applied to balance assessment and gait stability judgment.

4. Contact area
This value reflects the size and variation of the contact area between sole and ground during static standing and dynamic walking.

Data such as contact area can help accurately assess foot problems including flat feet and high arches.

5. Gait parameters
Gait parameters usually contain step length, stride width, cadence, stance time and swing time.

These data are mainly used in rehabilitation assessment and sports science.

The plantar pressure distribution system can measure more data than the above items, and additional data measurement can be added according to specific application scenarios.

Such data can be used separately or comprehensively in different scenarios, widely applied in medical rehabilitation, sports science and training, footwear and foot equipment design, gait analysis and evaluation, scientific research and biomechanical research.
