Measuring the height and area of the foot arch is often used to evaluate flat feet, high arches, and other conditions.
Common methods for measuring the foot arch are as follows:
1. Footprint method.
This is relatively simple and also very common.
The foot is stepped on paper or other equipment that can easily leave a footprint, and then the type of foot arch is judged based on the printed footprint.
When the middle blank area of the footprint is relatively large, it is judged as a high arch.
When the middle blank area of the footprint is moderate, it is judged as a normal foot.
When the middle blank area of the footprint is very small or even filled, it is judged as flat feet.
This operation can also be called the wet-foot paper method. Its advantages are low cost and simplicity.
Of course, it also has obvious disadvantages, namely low accuracy, large errors, judgment relying on experience, single data, and easy misjudgment.
2. X-ray / imaging examination.
This is detected through professional X-ray equipment in hospitals.
Such equipment can visualize the bone structure of the foot and has relatively high accuracy.
It can accurately diagnose problems such as flat feet and high arches.
However, its disadvantages are radiation exposure, relatively high cost, and it is not suitable for routine examinations.
3. Measurement and examination through a laser plantar scanner.
This type of equipment performs measurements based on laser optics and computer software analysis principles.
For example, the 3DOE plantar scanner only requires the user to stand on the scanning area of the device for about 20 seconds to complete the measurement. The accuracy can reach 0.5 mm, and it can generate more than 20 sets of key plantar data. It can automatically generate a measurement report, which can be downloaded by scanning a mobile phone or printed on site. At the same time, it can generate 3D data such as STL files. These 3D data can be applied to the design and production of orthotic insoles.
The advantages of using a laser plantar scanner are: high accuracy, comprehensive data, non-contact measurement, fast measurement speed, and it can be applied to the customization of orthotic insoles and personalized customization.
