A foot 3D laser scanner is a device that utilizes the optical principles of lasers to perform three-dimensional data scanning and acquisition of the human foot.
Currently, foot 3D scanners on the market have an accuracy of 1mm, and there are also those with 2-3mm, while the accuracy of 3DOE foot scanners is 0.5mm.
In the eyes of many people, the gap of 1-3mm is not large, and for evaluating flat feet, high arches, and utilizing this data for the design of customized insoles, there should be not much difference.
Actually, this is a kind of illusion.
If it is just measuring the size of the foot for the selection of shoe size, 1-2mm indeed has no major impact.
For example, if a person's actual foot length is 250mm, and the device measurement accuracy is 0.5mm, the measurement result might be 250.3mm; if the device measurement accuracy is 1mm, the measurement result might be 250.8; if the device measurement accuracy is 3mm, the measurement result might be 252.5mm.
These sets of measurement data, used to judge whether to wear size 39 or size 40, or what type of size is suitable, this gap may not bring obvious influence.
Because the shoe size itself will have a certain fitting space, and when performing shoe last design, generally it is also made according to the foot length one-to-one ratio.
But if conducting the evaluation of flat feet and high arches, this affects greatly.
Because the evaluation for flat feet and high arches does not rely on the dimensions of foot length and foot width to judge, but is comprehensively judged according to multiple dimensions such as the real morphology, spatial structure, and height changes of the arch, especially the arch height data.
Assuming a person's arch height is 20mm.
Using a device with 0.5mm accuracy to measure, the measurement result might be 20.3mm.
Using a device with 1mm accuracy to measure, the measurement result might be 21mm.
Using a device with 3mm accuracy to measure, the measurement result might be 23mm.
Looking solely from the numbers, the gap between 20mm and 23mm is not large, but for arch structure analysis, 3mm is a very large measurement difference.
If we evaluate that someone's foot type is just in the critical area, this may affect our judgment of normal arch and low arch, and the evaluation of the degree of flat feet or the degree of high arch.
Originally belonging to mild flat feet, it might be evaluated as moderate flat feet.
Originally belonging to moderate flat feet, finally it might be evaluated as severe flat feet.
Originally belonging to normal feet, but it is evaluated as mild high arch and other situations.
If due to data errors, the evaluation appears slightly wrong, and this data is further applied to customized insoles, this error will superimpose, which causes the made insoles to be uncomfortable to wear, and not only fails to achieve the correction effect, but even makes the feet produce more serious health problems.
